Leicester City vs Manchester City: Post-Match Analysis.

On form Leicester City hosted Manchester City at the King Power stadium. Leicester City had wonderful defence as they conceded the fewest goals per match in the league during their last 11 EPL matches.

Leicester lined up in a 3-5-2 formation on paper but kept a normal 4-4-2 on the ground with Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho as the only strikers. On the other hand, Man City used their traditional 4-3-3 formation but shifted to a 2-3-5 when in possession and 4-1-4-1 without the ball.

Tactics Used:

Leicester City's Long Balls tactic.

Manchester City always like to play with a high defensive line and Leicester City took advantage on this tactic. With an electric paced Jamie Vardy in front, they won most of the 1st balls easily and Iheanacho won the 2nd balls and attacks were launched. But City neutralized this tactic in the 2nd half.

Blocking the half-spaces.

Leicester City's wing backs dropped to make it 5 at the back hence blocking the spaces between the centre backs and the full backs. Always Kevin De Bruyne and Ikay Gundögan were marked as they were City's attacking and creative midfielders. This lowered Manchester City's creativity level.

Leicester City's Midfield overloads.

The Foxes (Leicester City) created overloads in the midfield to gaining the numbers advantage. When Pep saw this, he introduced the 4-1-4-1 formation where Bernardo Silva and. Riyad mahrez helped in the midfield.

Madison marked Rodrigo during Man City's build up but Ikay Gundögan and Kevin De Bruyne were another easy options to pick.

This tactic worked very well and Man City re-gained their midfield superiority during the match.

Manchester City's Counter-pressing.

To neutralize Leicester City's long balls threat, Man City pressed Leicester players in numbers hence forcing them to make mistakes. This tactic made Leicester City's long balls numbers to drop hence their threat reduced.

CONCLUSION:

Leicester City struggled tooth and nail during this match but luck deserted them. Now Manchester City are 57points while Leicester sit at 50 making the top 4 challenge more open.
