The Free Kick Technique That Was Banned For Being 'Too Genius'

Image
Football has evolved over the years and each year has it's own wonders. Free kicks are awarded after a defender fouls an opponent. There are different types of free kicks; direct which the taker can opt to shoot direct to the goal and indirect where the taker passes the ball. I will expound the indirect one. 52 years a go, a mad genius free kick was taken when Everton played against Coventry City. This was October 1970 when Coventry City by then were regular top flight team. Everton were on the receiving end when Coventry used this undiscovered trick. By the look of things, this free kick seemed to be planned and practiced during training session before Coventry City unleashed it against Everton. As the wall lined up, Coventry's Willie Carr stood over the ball innocently and suddenly gripped the ball between his heels and flicked it into the air. Striker Ernie Hunt swung back and smashed a volley that found the back of the net. What a genius

Marco Materazzi The Italian defender is arguably the most hated footballer in France after the Fifa World Cup finals in 2006 when he was headbutted by Zinedine Zidane in an old fashioned arguement. This is what led to the headbutt and Zidane was sent off the pitch. Later, France lost the final to Italy! 2. Herald Schumacher The Germany goalkeeper is the second most hated player in France. Being nicknamed the Butcher of Seville, dur

The Arsenal Way: Inverted Fullback to Win Arteta EPl Matches

Image
Arsenal have really thrived under Mikel Arteta and they have shown great flexibility in tactics. One of the key tactic that Arteta has been struggling to use is the inverted fullback and temporary fullback approach. Arsenal lacked players who could play this tactic and that's the main reason Mikel Arteta signed Oleksandr Zhinchenko. The Ukrainian midfielder-turned fullback can be deployed as an inverted fullback. Let me expound this tactic into detail: Inverted fullback explained: An inverted fullback is either right back or left back who plays as a midfielder when the team is in possession. This tactic is widely used by managers who utilise the total football or tiki taka approach.  Temporary fullback explained: This is a midfielder who plays as a either right back or left back when his team is in possession. Most football teams prefer a midfielder to drop and collect the ball deep in their defence but this gives more numerical advantage in the midfield.  Advantages of this tactic
