MY FIRST GIRLFRIEND.

Image
Image: Culture trip Let me narrate my tale About the girlfriend I knew very well She was the first; this ain't a fairytale! First, let me recall her name...  Awinja, was blessed especially her frame From Nyakach to Uyoma, she'd the fame!  She was slender and tall When she walked, her bums appeared to fall And her body movements attracted them all!  Her skin colour was dark And her thighs were thick and black After she has passed, men would look back!  Indeed, she was my fiancé Her curves, just like Beyonce I was like... "Sitaki nimkose!"  We always met by the river To me, she was a diva And in her heart, I was her scuba-diver!  But she listened to people's rumours That I was dating Diana Fraise The white witch who loves cheese! That's all about my those days Awinja Always short tempered like a Chinese ninja She could even bite your finger!

THE SERENADE

Image
A man singing a serenade to his partner. Picture by: Video Hive. Sing me a serenade tonight A serenade about yourself I want to have a better understanding Of you my beloved one. Sing me a serenade, honey About your previous lover On how she treated you I just want to hear it today. With the soft hymn of the harp Sing me a serenade about the village life That will rouse the past memories And awaken our future hopes. Pluck the guitar's strings, my love And sing for me a serenade Telling me how caring you are Praising my beauty. Sing a serenade for me tonight I want to hear it all from you About us and our love Sing for me a serenade darling And I will sing mine for you!

European Love

Image
She no longer trust my love to her  She wants affection in the European style. Always she keeps talking About having coffee dates While the dates I know  Are found on the calendar.  Picture: Pinterest.      She wants me to hug her Every time when we meet And give her a peck On her dimpled cheek. To me, That's against our African traditions Love is secret and sacred. But all she wants, Is love in the European style. She wants me to attend her friends parties That's the European love affair. Everywhere we should be together But our African morals, Men should work hard And meet their wives after attending the garden. She wants me to give her money And surprise her with expensive gifts. That's also European love I think. She doesn't accept the fact That I own a few coins To sustain us for a week. All she wants, is the European style of love. That's my girlfriend, Wachia Who ...

I'll Still go for Mariam.

Image
The gap between her teeth Makes her a beauty goddess And her voice,  Soft like the msondo drums. Though Mariam is not educated,  But her reasoning, like professors' Leave alone now days girls  Who reason when they see money.  Even if you give me thousand ladies Still,  I'll chose Mariam Not because of her beauty,  But she's a self-esteemed prowess.  So calm and non-vigilant Hardworking and has no time for gossiping. Even the village girls Are envious of her individuality. Mariam mastered all traditional arts Like humming softly while sweeping the compound. Also, balancing a water pot on her head Now that's my Mariam!  Mariam is a unique character In my favourite love film I won't marry any other girl For I have chosen Mariam!  Msondo - a type of drum from the Bantu communities  which releases a soft sound when hit popular in E. Africa region.

The Sacred Scalp

Image
I remember those moments just like the other day when we were united and tied to our ancestors. That chilly morning, we ran half naked to the office camp ready for the day's activity. I studied the grimy faces that stood around me burning with fear and greed to tie another knot on their ropes. Then it came my turn to face the wrath of the shining knife. I bit my lips and stayed still waiting for the monk to start the ritual. The knife fiercely landed on my young skin just in front of the girls and villagers. I moaned out loudly The crowd roared "Welcome to manhood!"

AWAITING DAWN

Image
Inside the grass hut a family is sleeping on a mat their throats stuck awaiting for the dawn's truck.  Happily they smile saliva lumps pile weakly they stare their dim eyes glare.  In foreign kingdom they wander is this for their blunder?  No surface to stick nor strength to click.  Their nights long but they remain strong Scavengers in beach hotels bask feasting from dawn to dusk.  Satisfied with dissatisfaction and the hyped calculation drops falling on the roof But not yet dawn's proof.  Yes that's dew but the day not yet new hopefully they are waiting sooner or later, it will be morning.

The Cry of Justice

Image
Woman in front of the judge holding a piece of fudge. Burning with the urge and pressed by the surge of the unjust judgement. Justice!  Justice!  Where are you? Vacating the inhabitants and sparing the assailants still declaring the residents as stubborn migrants thus giving them fake assurance to shut them silently. Justice!  Justice!  Where are you? Imposing high taxation to make a classical separation between the poor and the rich burying them in the ditches. Money allocated to ever hungry stomachs while preaching the doom of premonition for the hidden calculation. Justice!  Justice!  Where are you?

OPEN SECRET

Image
I know you are married Settled with your wife But my heart runs mad When I see you deep in thoughts. Please allow me To be your solution. Marriage is just a contract That expires with time. Allow me to penetrate your territory And build an empire Give me your contact, I'll call you at nine When your wife is asleep And you'll hear my feminine voice. Having you, Is like owning a gold mine. Just for today, Can you come for a sleep over? I'll make sure Your wife won't realise this. Come on boy! Don't be a used toy. Open your eyes and see The Samaritan woman I am Trying to save you From this lifetime stress. A handsome man like you... Needs a loving and caring woman Who knows how to treat a man In and out of the house. A woman who can nurse The heart bruises you're getting From your so-called wife. Give me this chance darling I will take you to Hawaii For you to feel loved again I'll always be on your side You being my ...

Hearsay

1st person:You got the news?                      John has been fired Because of his laziness at work. 2nd person: Oh really? I knew he would be                         fired anytime soon. These are bluffs From your so-called friends. Don't let them discourage you Nor stop your blood from circulating. They will talk about your problems While theirs are silently stinking. They'll keep on blurting rumours But, Stand firm against them. Be strong,  be consistent. Our mouths have two roles; Eating and speaking. Don't be bothered It's the mouth's work to speak No matter how bad you will feel When they expose you. Remember, The sun will always rise from the East And set in the West. Be candid,  be solid. One secret; Don't tell them your plans Let them see your achievements. By giving in to their claims No matter how friendly they are,...

FALLEN BEAUTY

Image
Those days,  We used to see The shimmering rocks Beyond the horizon From our usual cliff In the ocean of love.  You showed me the snow When winter was near.  Indeed,  You were such a demure And loyal to my heart.  Prisca my love,  You taught me to be loving And fought many battles together.  Those tender lips,  Which were not only sweet But also,  They had distinctive warmth That made my blood Run helplessly in my veins Chasing for your love.  Now,  On the same bed we used to lie,  You sleep  Never to wake up again.  Your innocent face Unable to beat the cruelty Imposed by death.  Whom have you left me with?  Prisca my love The world is now jarring at me Am sad and lonesome. My love,  If it pleases you or not Am coming for you NOW.  I hope we gonna unite.

The Love Puzzle

Once I had a friend Living in the old errand So cool and non vigilant expert Loved a girl, But was abandoned on the wedding eve Still you call this love? There was a miracle worker So holy than a pastor He got mates for singles And billions for the poor Unfortunately, he died poor. Can you call this love? I talked to an artist Who sang for activists So popular and successful And he made a name. Many girls came to his doorstep But when fame deserted, All the girls escaped. Still you call this love? My sister, the daughter of my mum Cried until she was dumb Love! Love! Love! She liked, she loved But men cheated on her Can you still call this. Am in love with a girl Of my choice admiral. She's a pretty Queen Always asking where I've been She is doubting and jealous I can't talk even to her workmates And keeps my phone in her handbag. Still you call this love?

LOST IN PARADISE

Image
Mandela my love, I want to be your Queen. Counting the heartbeats While leaning on your chest Hold me beside you With your firm grip On my waist. Mandela my love, I want to be your first choice. I'll make you Sleep on my lap. While my fingers. Busy drawing  lines on your face Silently whispering The latest love poem. Mandela my love, Take me to the highest mountain There, I'll show you my love Beyond the horizon. I want you to kiss my lips Which always taste honey And feel my hard-orange-breasts When you hold me close to you. Mandela,  my love Loving you is my weakness and, Having you is my strength. Take hold of my hand And lead me to the plains; The land of beautiful roses Shining like diamonds at night Then whisper to me The sweetest words from your heart. Oh,  Mandela my love... Am out of words For am lost In your 'Paradise of Love. ' Courtesy:shutterstock.com

AFRICA

Image
On the high mountains Gazing around To see the incongruous hills And the incorrigible trees. Enjoying the view Of the jolted plains Which are loop-sided Away from the sea. Our dark land Having meandering paths Leading to the unknown. For sure, We're strangers in our own land! Missiles of darkness Penetrating through the alleys And ocean of tears Brought by the Nazism  supporters. Oh Africa! Our eyes  are wet with tears. Wake up from your slumber! And take care of your inhabitants. A map showing the African continent Picture:africaguide.com

I'LL RETURN TO MY VILLAGE

Image
When I heard about the City, My heart danced with pleasure And the overflowing urge To see it. First,  those skyscrapers And the numerous cars Made my mind to go viral. For now it's enough And the right time To leave the city And its crazy mimes. I've seen much Mostly disgusting Than the promised goodies Let me return back to my village. In the streets, Ladies walk almost naked Fake hair,  fake nails... Most of these ladies are fake From their looks to their words. I'd rather marry Kadzo Our village dancer Than these City ladies Who always think on partying, Smoking and drinking wine. I'll return to my village And build myself  A makuti thatched hut And forget these cosy rooms With poor ventilation. After  that, I will plough my garden Then plant the traditional Katumani maize seeds. I'll return to my village And rear my own livestock Because when am in the city I see no life sustaining opportunities Except for the short te...

The Dubious Breakup

I only saw the smoke And the outraging anger Coming from her heaving chest I asked her,  "Why? " All I got was a cold stare. Leaving me to tumble over And fell in the thorned ditch? I knew not. But at least, I'll be free from her Her relentless jealousness. Where did this fight start? And when? Alas! She stormed to my workplace that morning After getting some rumours From envious neighbours Who were after me But their efforts Were fruitless. Now that morning, She stumped her feet And kicked away Chairs,  boxes and everything Out of her way. Not knowing what she was fuming for. I paved a way for her And sat on the sofa sweating "Where were you yesterday? " She wanted to know. Standing before the CCTV She viewed the recorded clip That night, I slept in the office Due to much work Since I'd been away for months. Realizing  this, She relaxed and said, "Honey,  when will you take me out for dinner?" I laughed...

I'VE MET THE GIRL

Image
I've met the girl Who stole my heart Those days in high school. You want to know her name? Well,  I'll tell you. I've met her In the outskirts of Johannesburg On her way from work. Do you remember her? She was tall and slender Her hips, Curved like an African pot While her dark lips, Made her to look rude. She had black hair Hanging down her neck. Her skin, Was soft and tender And it wasn't too dark Nor so pale. I've met the girl Who made my nights sleepless When she saw me First,  she stood still And rubbed her eyes for surety. She seemed to be lost In her secret world. She dropped her leather handbag And ran towards me. I looked behind me, To see if there is someone behind me Luckily,  I was the only person In that alley. After that century hug, She filled my shoulder with tears Then took me to her house And cooked dinner for me. She was helpless And a stranger too In this deserted country Called Love. For sure, I'...

CHRISTMAS

Image
Image: Life Site. Two thousand years ago, In the City of Bethlehem Our Saviour was born. So tender and young To deliver us from the hands Of Satan And the Bible tells it all. His mother, Mary, Was a Virgin And knew no man Conceived Him through The Holy Spirit's Might Only for us to be saved. On this day, A King was born. They wondered... How can a King be laid on a manger? Those who believed in the Old Testament prophesies Knew how Jesus would rule like a King. Not as an earthly leader, But as a heavenly Messiah. We should comemmorate this day, By sharing what we have with others. Do not eat goodies While your neighbour Has nothing to eat. For the love of our new born King, Let's love otthers. This is the time to visit the sick, Prisoners, aged and all The needy people in the society And give them hope That 'A Saviour' is born today And share with them Earthly and Spiritual food Let our King Come in peace And live with u...

Butterfly

Image
Have you ever seen the butterfly? It always wanders in the garden And the colourful patterns, Well spread on its wings Brightly shinning, With all colours Like the famous 'kithiki.' During rainy season. So humble it is One and only of its kind. When it makes a wave, Am lost in admiration. I wake up early in the morning So that, I can catch up with it Before it wakes up. When I spot it, A smile appears on my lips And my face brightens up. Beautiful it is My heart is satisfied. Even my friends and other villagers, Admire this colourful butterfly. I tried to catch it Unluckily, it flew away Displaying its zig zag moves Swiftly cutting The thin air. During night time, I sneaked back to the garden With me was a torch Which I stole from My father's premises. I found it gently sleeping On a leaf nest, Made of light cotton. I ought not to touch it Or awaken it from its slumber. I returned back home Happy and relaxed. My butterfly Is the...
