Chelsea vs Wolverhampton match analysis

Chelsea line up in a 4-3-3 formation while Wolves went for a much traditional 3-5-2 formation but later shifted to a 4-4-2 formation. Both teams seemed to look for early goals. In this match,  Wolves wanted to control the midfield in order to destroy the 'Sarriball' completely which is dictated by the midfield. Here are the reasons why Wolves made it hard for Chelsea to penetrate their defence:

1. Wolves narrowed their defence.
This gave Chelsea hard time to penetrate Wolves defence as they liked to attack using the void spaces. As Wolves reduced their defence, Chelsea used the the spaces left by the fullbacks to whip crosses in the Wolves' danger zone. Ceasar Azpilicueta and Emerson used to supply balls to find their target man in the box which they were not good at.

2. Also Wolves attacked and defended in a close unit.
This blocked all the gaps in Wolves' defence forcing Chelsea to play the ball from the back so as to attract the opposition players. Meanwhile, Chelsea began to use long passes with the aid of David Luiz,  the played long balls to find their strikers. Wolves were good on areal ball and this made them win most of the areal duels.

3. Wolves attacked Chelsea on transitions.
Raul Jimenèz caused a lot of problems to Chelsea's defence since the begining of the match. He used to drop deep to intercept and help in defending. When he got the ball,  he dictated  the tempo of the game to his teammates. Wolves left Chelsea to posses the ball but made sure they caught them on transitions. Raul and his teammates had studied the Chelsea's  defence as Azpilicueta and Emerson were oftenly caught out of their positions. This was enabled by quick one-two passes between Raul and Jota which eventually resulted to a goal. Most of the time Chelsea were caught in 2 v 2 in their defence.

Why Chelsea equalised.
Wolves sat back to defend their goal hence causing problems for themselves. Introduction of Willian opened a new phase as Chelsea began to shoot long range shots on Wolverhampton's goal because they couldn't penetrate the defence. Hazard got his equaliser goal in the added time to rescue a point for Chelsea. If Chelsea had began long-range shooting from the beging of the match they'd have won.
