Oleksandr Zhinchenko's Ability and Player Analysis.

Oleksandr Zhinchenko is an Ukranian professional footballer now playing for Manchester City. He started his career at FC Ufa in Ukraine and played as an attacking midfielder.

He joined Manchester City on 4th June 2016 and sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven. His fee from Ufa to Man City was £1.80 million. He returned to Man  City on mid 2017.

We all know Zhinchenko plays as a left back under Guardiola. Here are his capabilities:

1. Quick Pace

Zhinchenko has a quick pace which enables him to launch counter attacks and rushing back to defend in time. This made Pep Guardiola to transform him to be a left-back.

2. Passing Accuracy.

He has amazing passing accuracy which enables him to find and link up his team mates. Atleast 60% of his passes this season found the target hence he is one of the best players when it came to passing. This makes him one of the youngest player to play as a left-back in the Man City's squard.

3. Possession and Confidence With The Ball.

What made Man City sign him back in 2016 was his possession ability. This helps in releasing teammates when they are marked. It's one of the tactic used by Guardiola since Barcelona. A good example Sergio Busquets who uses body movements to free his teammates. This creates spaces for his teammates to exploit.

4. Defensive Role.

During the build up phase, Guardiola's Man City use a 2-3-5 formation with possesion. In the defence, he uses the two center-backs, in the midfield, Fernandinho who is the defending midfielder together with the two wing-backs.  These help in providing cover for the defence. So Zhinchenko's fast pace helps to stop quick counter-attacks from the opponents. Oftenly, Guardiola uses inverted wing-backs to play the midfield role.

Oleksandr Zhinchenko is not the first player to be transformed by Guardiola. The likes of David Alaba and Javi Martinez were all midfielders but played as wing-backs under Guardiola. Even on some occassions we saw Fernandinho playing as a center-back the same position Yaya Toure played at Barcelona.
Will Zhinchenko play the Left-back role or will shift back to his old position?
