Monday Football: New Arsenal But Same Problems.
Arsenal took on Liverpool on Saturday and lost 3-1 although they created several goal scoring chances.
Each team's intention was known in the begining of the match. Liverpool went on the attacking approach while Arsenal waited to hit Liverpool on transitions.
Here are the reasons why Arsenal lost:
Poor Defensive Organisation.
David Luiz was the bad boy during the match. The Brazilian pulled Salah's shirt in the box which resulted to a penalty. Luiz also failed to defend Salah which saw him netting his second and the third for Liverpool.
One problem I noted from Luiz is he does not check behind his shoulder. During their match against Burnley, he made this mistake and against Salah, he failed to defend well.
Failed to mark Liverpool's full-backs.
This is the worst mistake Arsenal made. Liverpool often use the full-backs to make crosses in the box that's why Alexander-Arnold and Robertson were vital for Liverpool. They had more than 12 assists each. Arsenal were supposed to cover the wide areas thus forcing Liverpool to attack through the middle. Liverpool's most attacks are launched in the wide areas.
Arsenal's wastefulness.
Indeed, Arsenal had few chances to grab goals but the took them for granted. Aubameyang missed a 1v1 chance to score a goal against Adrian(Liverpools goalkeeper.) This saw them being punished at the end.
Failure to hit Liverpool on transition.
Liverpool always like to keep a high defensive line and Unai Emery knew this and was well prepared.
Although Arsenal wanted to hit Liverpool on transition, Jurgen Klopp knew this plan and took action in advance. He kept Fabinho deep to break Arsenal's counter attacks.
Liverpool are on fire this season. Will they win any silverware?
Liverpool lined up in a 4-3-3 formation but shifted to 2-3-5 with possession and Fabinho sat deep to provide a cover for the defence. On the other hand, Arsenal lined up in a 4-3-1-2 formation with their

Nicolas Pepe and Aubameyang.

Luiz failed to mark Salah rather, intercept the one-touch pass played by Alexander-Arnold to Salah. Always your team should dominate their goal box but here is 3vs 3 in Arsenal's box. |
