Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspurs: London Derby Analysis.

Chelsea faced their London rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs at Stamford Bridge. This match for the second time included The Manager (Jose Mourinho) versus his student (Frank Lampard). Lampard was lucky as his Blue side won both home and away versus Mourinho's men.

The Blues lined up in a 3-4-3 formation but shifted to a traditional 4-4-2 without possession. On the other hand,  Tottenham Hotspurs lined up in a 3-5-2 formation but this was actually 5-4-1 without possession.

As expected, Chelsea dominated the match in terms of possession and attacks while Spurs sat back and waited to hit The Blues on transitions and counterattacks.

Reasons Why Spurs Lost:

Disorganized Pressing.

Spurs had problems when it came to pressing. Mostly, the defence did not help the entire team when it came to pressing. This led to the 1st goal as Jorginho  was between the lines and found Giroud. This movement led to Chelsea's first goal.

Tight marking of Jorginho.

Mourinho knew that Chelsea depend on the midfield in the launching of attacks. Frank Lampard had done his assignment very well and made Rose Barkley and Kovaçic drop between the lines. By marking Jorginho, Spurs caused themselves problems as Barkley and Kovaçic moved freely during the attack build up phase.

Chelsea's midfield overloads.

Mourinho wanted to dominate the midfield and have the numbers advantage to stop Chelsea's build up. When Lampard saw this, he made Mason Mount drop in the midfield to get the numbers advantage thus creating a 3v3.

Spurs Were Not Clinical Enough In Scoring.

Spurs got many chances but they blew them away. This led them being punished by their City rivals.

Spurs resolutions to return back to the game:

Introduction of Serge Aurier.

Aurier was introduced as he has good crossing accuracy. This was a tactical substitution as Mourinho wanted more balls inside the box. This tactic backfired badly as Aurier whipped only 2 crosses

Eric Lamella's Creativity.

Spurs introduced Eric Lamella who has creative spark to revive the match. This led to a 3-4-3 formation.

CONCLUSION:

It was a great encounter as Jose Mourinho got a cold reception from his former employer,  Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspurs had chances to grab at least a point but they were not clinical enough. Spurs boss, Jose Mourinho said after their UCL loss to RB Leipzig, "We're like a gun without bullets" followed by injuries to his two strikers, Harry Kane and Son.
